Edmund was so happy that he bought a bottle of wine to celebrate after we left the hospital. Before we knew the gender of the baby, I could already see the desire in him to have a son whenever we went to the park; he would look and admire those guys playing soccer and wearing the same jerseys with their young sons. I still remember we had so many tiffs in the past few weeks whenever he referred our baby as "he" and I referred baby as "she" in the name of fairness.
Well, the game is over. Now, it is shopping time. As soon we know we should be buying clothes in baby pink or blue, we are starting to stock up his clothes, towels, nappies, milk bottles, etc. The bigger items will come next since they are going to take up space in the house.
It is amazing how lifestyle has changed after my maternal instinct kicked in. Nowadays I will do things like: before buying a packet of potato chips or sweets, I will ponder if the extra salt or sugar will affect my baby; before drinking a cup of coffee or cola, I will ask myself if I have been having too much caffeine recently; talking to my son and ask for his opinion when buying his clothes even though it looks silly; when I am unhappy, I quickly put my favourite CD on and focus on other things so that the bad vibes will not stress my baby out. All these sound very strange but I actually like the way they are.
Everyday, I look forward to feeling my baby moving inside my tummy and I treasure every moment of it.
